settle down my sweet princess we're on our way there through the hills and dining halls and I'm happy to be here with you at our amusement park of choice
2.
Disaster 02:40
there's room in this house for another little girl to take up the chair I saved for you there's still room in my day for another change of heart to avoid the disaster like the one that we went through on your only off day there's room in this year for a capitol address where planes take their turns coming in there's still room in my day for another change of heart to avoid a disaster like the one that we went through but you can't claim to know me now the things I said a country ago they don't count I take modest over modern hope over faith I take comfort in the things that can't wait I take comfort in the things that can't wait
3.
it's easier to leave than be left behind and I'm beginning to see that you didn't intend to be so unkind and I've considered putting my faith in doubt now that it seems everything else is running out it's not the next move it's just a new year we're stumbling through am I what you want or am I just the one you're closest to? it's not enough to just like having me around if I tell you the truth will it let you down?
4.
what's that writing on your hand? a reminder to take you away back to your life one that I once knew I'd give anything to be there with you sitting in your backyard wasting another night let me take your hand one last time until we get it right in my room, I still keep pictures of you standing still shaking your head I didn't give you a choice - you were told but you're not mad you just feel old I don't know why I'm here pulling out paper crowns when I've done nothing more then let the two of us down.
5.
Queen South 03:02
saw her for the last time on Queen South avenue walking to the bus stop just the way she used to it was a year ago this week that I didn't ask her to stay
6.
I had a lot of time I heard a lot of truth I had a lot of miles I didn't use I had some room I didn't mind I brought the things you left behind Found a room where you could sleep Gave back the things you couldn't keep The things you said, they sounded fair It wasn't right to be there You said yourself It's anyone's guess Where you'll end up in the end.
7.
Bryn Mawr 02:23
will I see you today at the parade? or in Bryn Mawr sitting on your porch don't act scared it's only because you're trying to stay young but no one really cares what you've done you were right about the clean white spaces and the way it opens up a room these old numbers come easier than they should and these reunion weeks don't do us any good they're just one more chance to see who's wrong
8.
Trestle 03:50
I want to be in your town I haven't seen those streets that pass beneath your feet and if I could see those bridges I want to breathe the air you breathe and hear every time you laugh I want to breathe the air you breathe and if I could see those bridges you've been diving from and with my weekends spent away I can hear those city sounds and the water captured in my lungs it's on my skin if my home was in your town.
9.
Country Bar 06:05
drove out in separate cars across main street past the Country Bar to see a girl with a hotel and a history and a need to stay away north country scenes and small town fight we just sat there singing along there were promises made on New Year's day that never came around she has a fear of oceans and pictures from far away and being blinded on her wedding day there's talk of coming home but it's too cold she's where the winters aren't too bad and the colors never leave.
10.
Spain 02:55
it's a long way to anywhere in Spain that's all she said to me they were the only words I could hear as the last call came and she disappeared I spent the last three years hoping I would see her around I guess the long wait is over I still have three days on the train it's a long way to anywhere in Spain
11.
here I am picking you up again from another Southern wedding and I'm listening close as you get in so why are you smiling when you say you're sad and broken again? this time it wasn't the same because all the good spellers couldn't say your name so are you still sad when you wake up? are you still sad that it's you I hold on to?
12.
I was wired when I told you what I'd change if you changed your name I'd say goodbye don't you believe there's nothing better for me and aren't you tired of watching me try? I could tell you this now but I'll wait for the letters you send don't wait for this to come to an end you called me the day it was time to leave the state you were finally ready to go and don't you believe there's nothing better for me and aren't you tired of telling me no? I could lie to you now but you know what it's come down to I gave away everything I promised you

about

Old Numbers is a quiet introduction to the Ashtray Hearts, collecting twelve songs of love and loss. "On their debut, Old Numbers, the Ashtray Hearts have created a somber, inviting album that reflects those lonely, hopeless wintry days in a city full of broken hearts, dead dreams and bittersweet memories." - No Depression

The Ashtray Hearts are a six-piece band out of Minneapolis, Salt Lake, and New York City. Their new record, Gold Century, contiues to explore their take on Americana, folk rock, cosmic country, and modern indie minimalism.
